Unity Day Description/Overview

What is Unity Day?

Unity Day is a day to get re-connected and to bring the residents, families, and the businesses of Bernardsville and neighboring towns together for a day of fun, unity and family festivities.

What is the purpose behind the event?

The purpose is to create unity within the family, the community, and local government and to help support and raise money for selected worthy causes.  This year the Chamber chose to raise money for the Bernardsville all Volunteer Fire Dept and Rescue Squad and The Bernardsville Senior Citizens Center.

Why did The Bernardsville Chamber of Commerce decide to start something like this?

Five years ago Chamber Board Director Joe Rossi and President Caesar Mistretta were looking for ways to distinguish the Chamber, and to help bring unity to the community and surrounding area for a worthwhile project, at the same time raising funds for various charities.

What are going to be the highlights of the day?

The highlights of the day will consist of an old fashion BBQ run by the fire dept, live music, rides, games, Police Dept Safety program, Fire Company and First Aid equipment and business displays by local merchants.

What types of attractions will there be?

Our attractions consist of petting zoos; pony rides, slides obstacle courses and many other attractions.

Is it just for residents of Bernardsville?

No, anyone who wishes to participate may attend.

How much did the residents enjoy this event last year?

Last year 2007 close to 4,000 attended the event with 100 sponsors. Tremendous positive feedback and local govt and community support convinces us that this should be an annual event.

Who does it benefit?

This year, it benefits the community and supports the all volunteer Bernardsville Fire Dept and First Aid Squad that have contributed over 110 years of public service and and supports the Bernardsville Senior Citizens Center. Last year we donated an $8,000.00 check to the Fire Company and $2,000.00 to the Bernardsville Senior Citizens Center.

Why Chamber members get involved with Unity Day?

Because they are apart of the business and residential community, they feel it is their responsibility to do whatever they can to help improve the community and surrounding area.  One of the main missions of the Bernardsville Chamber is to bring together the business and residential community.  Unity Day brings a fun event and at the same time raises money for a worthy cause.

Can non-Chamber members get involved?

Yes. Any business in the surrounding area can be a sponsor.

What does it take to put on this event?

It takes a very committed and dedicated team of people working together to pull something like this off. The Chamber members donate substantial amount of money and time to make this event possible.
